Burlington Railroad Employee's Death Result of Heart Ailment
George Meyer, 50, rate clerk for the Burlington Railroad at Grand Island, died this morning in the family home at 317 West 17th. He had been in poor health for the last three years, but had attended to his own work at the railroad office until Saturday evening. His death was attributed to a heart ailment.
Arrangements for the funeral await word from relatives from out of the city. The Livingston-Sondermann funeral home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Meyer, a native Nebraskan, was born near Glenvil on June 2, 1896, to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meyer. When he was a child the family moved to Grand Island.
He began his railroad service with the Union Pacific Railroad but 26 years ago he went to work for the Burlington, and had been with that company since that time. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Mr. Meyer and Miss Vera Cottingham were married at Aurora on Sept. 1, 1923. Three children were born to them.
Surviving are his wife, three children, Mrs. John Hughes, San Gabriel, Cal., Donald Meyer and Miss Norma Jean Meyer, both of Grand Island; his parents, now living in Grand Island; three brothers, Otto and William Meyer of North Platte, and John Meyer of Tacoma, Wash.; and five sisters, Mrs. Henry Becker of St. Paul, Mrs. Marie Decker and Mrs. Ray Kehm of Grand Island, Mrs. L. T. Wheeler of Port Angeles, Wash., and Mrs. H. G. Hutton of Eureka, Cal.
