REV. J. BENSON AKERS.
-----
A WORTHY MINISTER CALLED TO HIS REWARD.
-----
Born in Fulton County in 1829, He Graduated from Dickinson College in 1858, and Immediately Entered Upon an Active Life in the Ministry in Which He Remained 31 Years.
-----
HIS FUNERAL WILL TAKE PLACE TO-MORROW
-----
An Earnest Champion of Every Good Cause, His Life's Record is His Best Monument.
-----
Rev. Joseph Benson Akers, mention of whose death on Sunday evening was made in yesterday's issue, was born in Akersville, Fulton county, on February 3, 1829, and at the time of death was aged 60 years, 8 months and 24 days.

He graduated from Dickinson college in 1858 and immediately entered the East Baltimore conference of the Methodist Episcopal church. The following are the appointments which he filled: Shrewsbury, 1858-9; York Springs, 1860-1; Catawissa, 1862; Sharpsburg and Clear Spring, 1863-4; Mercersburg, 1865-6; Liberty, 1867-8; Freedom, 1869; Port Matilda, 1870. In 1871 he was principal of Catawissa seminary, and he then filled the following appointments: White Haven, 1872-3; Hiner's Run, 1874-6; Howard, 1877-9; Penn's Valley, 1880-1; Glen Hope, 1882-4; Bellwood, 1885-6; Shrewsbury, 1887-8. In 1889 he was superannuated. He was assistant secretary of the East Baltimore conference several years and when the Central Pennsylvania conference was formed filled a similar position under Dr. D.S. Monroe, the secretary.

His ministerial work ended where it began, at Shrewsbury, York county. After thirty-one years of faithful toil in the church of his choice, he asked a superannuated relation and removed to his home at Bellwood to enjoy his well-earned rest. But on the 2d of April he was stricken with paralysis and rallied bur slowly through the summer, only to sink peacefully to rest with the falling of the autumn leaves. He was conscious of his approaching departure and had "set his house in order" in every particular. With the words "Praise the Lord," "Almost home," he passed from labor to reward.

He leaves a wife, a daughter and two sons and a little adopted daughter to mourn the loss which is his infinite gain.

The funeral services will be held in Bellwood to-morrow morning at 10 o'clock.

Mr. Akers was a man of singular modesty. He made no claims, but all who knew him understood the sincerity of his motive, the purity of his character and the value of his labors. Every good cause had in him an earnest champion. His life record is his best monument.
