C.M. Bickford Dies After Long Illness
C.M. Bickford, pioneer farmer living 5 miles northeast of Alfalfa, died Sunday at his farm home after an illness of more than a year. he underwent an operation at an Oklahoma City hospital two months ago and a second operation two weeks ago.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist church at Alfalfa Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. C.T. Kerran and interment was made in the Alfalfa cemetery.
Charles Marion Bickford was born March 21, 1861 near Koekuk, Iowa, died November 5, 1933, aged 72 years, 7 months and 14 days.
At the age of 16 he moved with his parents to Texas, then to Colorado. He came to Oklahoma about 1893. He was married to Martha Branstetter at Cushing, Okla. by Rev. Austen Dec. 27, 1898. they were among the pioneer families to locate in the Alfalfa and Eakly community where Mr. Bickford was active in the advancement of all civic interests. Here they reared their family of nine children. Three daughters preceded their father in death. Besides the widow he is survived by two sons, Paul and Joe Bickford; four daughters, Mrs. Eudora Chapman, Mrs. Elizabeth Schwartz, and Misses Vergie and Wilda Bickford; one sister, Mrs. Sarah Ann Warner of Richland, Okla.; and two brothers, Jim Bickford of Colorado, and Alkie Bickford of Tahlequah, Okla. All of the relatives were present for the funeral except the two brothers.
At the age of 20 Mr. Bickford was converted and joined the Methodist church at Merced, Calif. and has since lived a true Christian life from which he was ready to depart.
