Homer was the son of Nelson Aylsworth & Mary Deming Aylsworth, both from New York. He was a lawyer. He married Mabelle Virginia Long on June 7, 1911 in Lincoln, Nebraska. They had two children, Homer Jr., and Dorothy Charlotte. Homer became ill from the long wagon ride in the cold from Lincoln to bring his father-in-law's body to the Sheridan Cemetery for burial in Dec. 1914.
