Raymond J. "Remo' Smarelli 80 of Richmond died February 6, 2010 unexpectedly at Reid Hospital. He was born April 5, 1929 in Richmond to John and Angelina Smarelli and lived in Richmond all his life.

Remo retired from Conrail after working 30 years as an engineer. He was an Air Force and Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1948-57. He was a graduate of Richmond Senior High School.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, and Harry Ray American Legion Post #65. He enjoyed his family, woodworking, canvas painting, and golf.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years Helen, three children Angela (Steve) Hornak of Richmond, Jim Smarelli of Indianapolis, and Matt (Heather) Smarelli of Whiteland, nine grandchildren Stevie, John, Sarah, and Alena Hornak, Seth, Travis, Mason, Maria Smarelli, and Ashley Brown, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother John Smarelli. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Wednesday February 10, 2010 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Todd Riebe officiating. Friends may call 4-7 PM Tuesday at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home.
