Samuel Read (Jr.) was the s/o Samuel Reed and Jane Reed of Delaware and Turkeyfoot,
Scott Co., KY. Samuel Read Jr. m. 1/w Elizabeth Cassandra Leach 25 Jan 1829 Scott Co., KY.
d/o Joseph H Leach and Cassandra Elizabeth Murphy of Montgomery Co., Maryland and
Eagle Creek, Scott Co., KY.
Children by Elizabeth Cassandra Leach: James A.; Joseph; Ebenezer B.; Samuel Thomas;
William E.; and Cassandra Read.
Samuel Read and family move to Missouri and are on the 1850 Federal Census of Sullivan Co., MO. They move to California where he is a goldigger and farmer. He and one of his sons traveled to California to pan for gold but returned around 1850 and later moved the family to Solano Co., CA. ca. 1852 where he continued farming and left for the Sierra Nevada Hills to pan for gold. After 1/w Elizabeth Cassandra's death in Solano Co., CA., Samuel Read remarried to 2/w Rachel N. (Ryan) Neff 11 July 1867 Solano Co., CA., widow of Orange Hyde Neff. After Samuel's death in 1883 Rachel Neff, Read moves with daughter Sarah Jane (Neff) Duffield and husband Thomas Jefferson Duffield to Goldendale, Klicktat Co., WA. I believe she died up in Washington State buried there or body shipped back to Orland, Glenn Co., CA to be interred with husband Samuel Read. Her name is on his tombstone but no date of birth or death.
