Jesse was an outdoor man who loved his dogs and hunting. He once had a photographer's wagon. He later went to work for the Orient Railroad as a locomotive engineer, continuing with the Santa Fe for 37 years of service. He retired to a ranch near Enid, OK. He married Hattie Armstrong, a nurse. They had no children.
