He married Sara Goodwin October 25, 1865. She did not live but a few months after their marriage. William Thomas Davis never married again, although he lived to be an old man. He was in business at Newburry, SC with his nephew Colin Campbell Davis. He was a successful contractor and builder having built several of the large cotton mills at Piedmont and other places. In his later years, he retired to the old place and engaged in various enterprises there.
He was stricken with paralysis and died at the home of his sister Ella Posey in Hendersonville, NC on June 20, 1902.
His remains are interred at the old burying ground and an inscription to his memory placed on the large monument he had erected there to the Davis family.
