S. V. Brents, local attorney for almost half a century, died at Barnes Clinic Sunday afternoon at the age of 78, following an illness of several weeks. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at Albany Baptist Church, with burial in the Albany Cemetery, under the direction of Sewell Funeral Home. Mr. Brents had been in declining health since suffering a heart attack about three years ago, but had continued his work as a lawyer, tax consultant, and news reporter until recently. He was born June 26, 1881 at Ida, Clinton County, the son of James Franklin and Malissa Stephenson Brents. He attended public school at Albany and graduated from Georgetown College, Georgetown, Ky., in 1905. He was admitted to the bar following completion of his study of law. In 1908 he was married to Annie Alice Long, daughter of John W. and Martha Bristow Long, Cartwright. She preceded him in death In 1927. He had been a member of the Albany Baptist Church for many years. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Maurice Purcell and Mrs. Romey Needham, both of Albany; one son, Sam Brents Jr., Nashville, Tennessee; and four granddaughters. Another daughter, Miss Anna Futon Brents, died in 1946 and two children died in infancy
