Edward G. Kretsch, age 69, of Manitowoc, died Monday afternoon, June 28, 2010 at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Ed was born on October 8, 1940 in the town of Manitowoc Rapids, son of the late Daniel and Olga (Teesch) Kretsch. He was a 1958 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School.
On November 19, 1960 Edward married the former Betty L. Gabsch at St. James United Church of Christ in Spring Valley.
He retired seven years ago from Mekco Manufacturing of Osman. His prior employers were: Bitter-Neuman Hardware Sales and the Imig Implement. He was employed in the past at several automobile dealerships, working primarily in the parts department. In his early years, Ed worked with his father as a mason.
He was a member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Ed's favorite hobby was playing old-time music for the past 55 years. He currently was a member of the Jerry Krueger Band and a former member of the Reiny Gaedtke Orchestra, where he played the trumpet and trombone.
Ed was also the family's fix-it man and since his retirement, he did a lot of woodworking in his shop. Ed will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. He was a kind husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Kretsch, rural Manitowoc; one son, Larry A. Kretsch, Chilton; one daughter, Jacquelyn Machkovech, Appleton; three grandsons, Douglas, Jacob and Philip Machkovech; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Beatrice Dietrich-Pritzl (Cal Pritzl), Kiel; Imogene (Donald) Fictum, New Holstein; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Allen Gabsch, Howards Grove; Julianne (David) Luebke, Newton; Doris Mae (Dale) Sprenger, Howards Grove; two special aunts, Hilda Rambadt, Newton; Lorraine Vogel, Manitowoc; his companions, Daisy and Charlie. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Olga Kretsch; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alfred and Norma Gabsch; one infant son; two nieces, Linda Fictum and Melody Schmidt; one brother-in-law, Norb Dietrich; one sister-in-law, Katherine Gabsch.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 2, 2010 at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3209 Meadow Lane, Manitowoc. Rev. Robert Kujawski and Rev. Stephen Melso will officiate with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
