A message was received here yesterday from Cabool, Mo., stating that Captain Martin Abel of the secretary of states' office was dying. The dispatch was forwarded to his son Henry who happened to be in Chicago. Henry left that city for his father's home yesterday afternoon. Captain Abel is effected with diabetes and left here Nov. 23. IL State Journal, Springfield, IL 1-22-1889
