Lifelong Alaskan Jack H. Abyo Sr., 77, died May 22, 2010, at Alaska Native Medical Center.

A service will be at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Innocent Russian Orthodox Cathedral, 401 Turpin St. Burial with military honors will be at noon at Fort Richardson National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Lock, David Fuller, Ronald Erickson, Alton Beach, Keith Joe and Robert Berg.

Jack was born May 7, 1933, in Ilnik. He was educated at Mt. Edgecumbe High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 at Fort Richardson.

Jack was a retired commercial fisherman and a member of St. John Russian Orthodox Church. He loved flying small planes, operating his fishing boat every fishing season, and subsistence hunting and fishing.

Jack is survived by his wife, Eleanor Abyo of Anchorage; son and fiancee, Dale Phillips Sr. and Ann Maxim of Gulkana; daughters and their boyfriends, Lisa Abyo and David Lock, JoAnn Abyo and Robert Berg, Marlene Abyo and Johnny Brockman, and Patricia Abyo and Ronald Erickson, all of Anchorage; son and girlfriend, Jack Abyo Jr. and Jolene Andrews of Anchorage; siblings and spouses, Mike and Maggie Abyo of Pilot Point, and Mary Ambrosia and Ron Fox of Shelby, Mont; sister-in-law, Sophie Abyo of Anchorage; grandchildren, Dale Phillips Jr. of Missouri, Jacob Phillips of Gulkana, Elizabeth Joe, Devon Erickson, Gabrielle Erickson, Jordan Beasley, Alexandria Beasley, Troy Beach, Joseph Beach, Marton Beach and Kody Abyo, all of Anchorage; and great-grandchildren, Kading, Kaden and Veronica Khotesouvan, and Vanessa Trufant and Zachary Beasley, all of Anchorage.

He was preceded in death by his father, Aleck Abyo Sr.; mother, Lisa Artemi Abyo; and brothers, Andrew "Sona" Abyo and Aleck Abyo Jr.
