Walter A. "Tony" A'Hern, 67, of 2160 Woodland Drive, died at 1:03 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Luther Manor.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church, with the Rev. Mark Ressler officiating. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 6. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

He was born on Feb. 20, 1943, in Maquoketa, Iowa, son of Patrick and Regina (Dwyer) A'Hern. He married Arlene M. Mostow on Dec. 20, 1989, at St. Joseph The Worker Church.

Tony served in the Air Force from 1964 to 1968. After his military service, he worked as a welder at John Deere Dubuque Works for 37 years.

He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union, Local 94.

Tony was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan, Dallas Cowboys fan, and loved going to Dubuque Greyhound Park & Casino.

Surviving are his wife, Arlene; two sons, Brian A'Hern, of Dubuque, and Sean A'Hern, of Waterloo; and a sister, Madelyn McDermott, of East Dubuque, Ill. He was loved by all his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Margaret Shaffer and Lucille Bersley; three brothers, Joseph, Larry and Jim A'Hern; and a brother-in-law, Tony McDermott.
