George W. Shippy was the son of John Shippy and Martha Jane (Cronk) Shippy. He moved to Windom around 1884 and worked as a painter.

George Shippy was a well known resident of Windom for twenty-one years and died Oct. 3 1930 after an illness that had confined him to his bed for two weeks. He was a restaurant man who conducted pop corn and lunch stands here for some 20 years. He constructed the brick lunch stand on Third avenue.

Funeral services were conducted for George Shippy Sunday afternoon (Oct. 5, 1930) at two o'clock, Rev. Lowrie had charge. There was a large number of frieNds and relatives gathered, interment was in the Windom cemetery.

Mr. Shippy had been sick for about a month but was not confined to his bed until the last week or two. Many of his friends hardly knew of his fatal illness.

He was born in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, July 3, 1864. He came to Cottonwood County in 1884 and lived near Jeffers with Mr. and Mrs. William Potter, then he lived for a number of years with Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Potter and Red Rock ridge.

Later he came to Windom and lived for twenty-one years with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Barlow. It was here that he passed away Friday evening at eight o'clock.

He is survived by sister, Mrs. Gough, of Belvidere, Illinois, Mrs. Barlow, of Windom, and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Shippy was of a genial disposition, friendly and pleasant in his manner, and had many friends.
