Lewis Ole Sletten (SLATEN) was the 1st child born to Mathias and Berthenia (Thoen) Sletten in Martell Township, WI. Lewis started School in Martell and finished the 6th grade in Otter Tail Co., Lida Township Minn.

He met Ida Davis who was the daughter of Annis (BARNARD) Davis, a neighbor of the Slatten's in Minn. They were married 25 Dec 1879 in Pelican Rapids, Otter Tail Co. MI with Ida's Sister Ella and her husband Park Johnson as witness. They had 4 children, Vina (died young) Eva Inez, Ira & Charles.

After the death of Vina, Lewis and Ida took their daughter and headed west. They arrived in Sellwood Ore. by 1883 where their first son Ira Melvin was born 29 Aug 1883. From Sellwood (near Portland) From there the family went to Olympia where their last child, Charlie L. Slaten was born 21 Jun 1886.

They resided in Olympia for 5 years. Hearing about "Prairie land" being available on the east side of the mountains, Lewis took his family via Wagon train from Olympia over what is now known as White Pass on to Yakima and then to Wilbur, Douglas Co. WA.

It was here that both Lewis and Ira took farm land on what is known as High Hill. Ida and Lewis were divorced 25 Jan 1910. They both continued to live on High Hill. Ida died in 1922 and his son Ira was killed by a mad farmer in 1924. Lewis continued to live on Hill where Charles and daughter Eva had farms.

In 1940, Lewis decided to take a trip to Minnesota to visit his brothers and their families. He "planned" to stay a couple of weeks. His 2 week visit turned into 6 years. His health became poor and the family in Minnesota made arrangements with daughter Eve to send him to WA on the train.

He died in Ritzville on the train before reaching home. He is buried in the Ritzville Cemetery
