From Jane A:
Jacob Grass was born in Switzerland (1900, 1905, 1920 census, but Germany in 1910 & 1930). He emigrated to this country in either 1873 [1920], 1874 [1900 census] or 1875 [1910 & 1930]. I guess it's safe to say in the early 1870s.

Jacob J. Grass

Jacob J. Grass, son of Peter and Barbara Grass, was born Oct. 5, 1861 in Klosters, Ganton Graubuenden, Switzerland, and died at the Midlefart Clinic, Eau Claire, on Wednesday, June 10, 1935, at the age of 74 years. Death came suddenly and unexpectedly from a heart attack.

Mr. Grass came to America with his parents in 1873 at the age of 12. They settled in Big Waumandee where the father Peter Grass took up a homestead on what is now the Harry Gatz farm. Here Jacob grew to manhood and attended the Lincoln School. Here also in his youth he attended and united with the Lincoln Evangelical church until he was called from this world.

He was united in marriage to Louisa Moy, Jan. 2, 1888, at Alma. To this union seven children were born, two daughters and five sons.

Mr. and Mrs. Grass began their married life in Gilman Valley on the present Hans Quale farm. After one year they moved to town Lincoln on the old Tanner farm where they lived for five years. In 1894 they moved to the present Grass farm in town Gilmanton where they resided until 1920 when they came to the village of Gilmanton and lived here ever since.

Surviving are his wife, two daughters and four sons as follows: Della (Mrs. Albert Schultz) and Mabel (Mrs. Martin Brixen), and Jake, William, Percy, and Irvin, all of Gilmanton with the exception of the latter who is of the town Dover. One brother Christ Grass, Eleva, and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Keute, Superior, Mrs. Bertha Hessler, Eau Claire, and Mrs. Christina Anderson, town Dover, also survive as do twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A son Ray and two brothers John and Peter preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the home and Evengelical Church, Rev. O.J. Bernhardt in charge. Burial was in the Gilmanton cemetery.

CARD OF THANKS: We hearby wish to thank all those who in any way assisted us after the death and at the funeral of our beloved husband and father, Jacob Grass, especially Rev. O.J. Bernhardt for his comforting message, the male quartet, the pallbearers, and those who sent the beautiful floral tributes and the memorial for the Old Folks Home. Mrs. Louisa Grass and Children.
