Janet Aasby, 71, of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at her home.

Janet Arlene Aasby was born Sept. 12, 1938, in Fergus Falls, to Olaf and Beda (Erickson) Monsen. She grew up in Enderlin and Cooperstown, N.D., and Eau Claire, Wis. In 1956 she graduated from Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in Fergus Falls. She then worked at Hillcrest Academy and was the Dean of Women there from 1962 to 1973.

On Aug. 18, 1973, she was married to Harold Aasby in Fergus Falls by Revs. Finn Markland and O.A. Monsen. After their marriage they lived in Chester, N.J.,for 22 years. She worked for the Chester Police Department from 1974 to 1979 and for the Chester Municipal Court as Court Clerk from 1989 to 1995. She and her family returned to Fergus Falls where she worked in the Finance Office of CLBA for four years and then at Nordic Gallery part time for two years. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and the Fergus Falls Christian Women's Club which she helped start in 1969.

She is survived by her husband, Harold of Fergus Falls; two sons, Brent (Holly) Aasby of West Fargo, N.D., and Brian Aasby of Bismarck, N.D.; two sisters, Esther Markland of New Port Richey, Fla., and Alice Monsen of Richfield, Minn.; and three brothers: Les (Carolyn) Norman of Lake Crystal, Minn., Neil (Lorna) Norman of Milaca, Minn., and Dean (Peggy) Norman of Baxter, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Olaf and Beda Monsen; her step-mom, Elna Norman Monsen; and a brother-in-law, Finn Markland.

Visitation: Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls

Clergy: Revs. Ed Monsen, David Foss, Bill Colbeck and George Aase

Burial: Oak Grove Cemetery
