GREEN ISLAND – Mary Gilligan, 81, formerly of 56 Arch St., retired employee of The Record newspapers and widow of J. William Gilligan, died Sunday at the Albany County Nursing Home after a long illness.
Born in Green Island, the former Mary Dower, she was the daughter of the late Edward M. and Catherine Doyle Dower. A life-long resident of Green Island, she was employed in Watervliet and Cohoes offices of The Record newspapers for 10 years, before retiring 15 years ago.
Mrs. Gilligan was the mother of the late Edwina DePucchio. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church.
Survivors include a son, John W. "Bill" Gilligan of Green Island; a brother, Francis E. Dower of Troy; a sister Katherine Butts of N. Dartmouth, Mass.; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held 8:30 a.m. Wednesday from McNulty Funeral Home, 147 Hudson Ave., in Green Island, and at 9 a.m. from St. Joseph's Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered.
