Robert Smith was born in Brown Co.
Kansas on May 28, 1857. He was
married to Ruth A. Nichols on
December 21, 1878.
About this time he was converted and
united with the United Brethern
Church in which he lived a consistent
life until he came to this country in the spring of 1889. He was deprived of his church of choice, and did not unite with any church here.
He had been suffering for three years
but on January 27, 1893, he passed
from labor to reward. He leaves his
wife and three children to mourn his
passing. He was 34 years, 7 months
and 29 days of age.
His funeral was attended at the school
house at Vliets on January 28, and his
remains were placed in the cemetery
west of town.
