Joe P. Colquitt

Joe P. Colquitt, 67, of Monroe, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998.

He was born in Oglethorpe County Dec. 30, 1930, the son of the late Pierce Reese Colquitt and the late Bessie Lee Bray Colquitt. He served in the U. S. Navy and the 82nd Airborne Paratroopers. He was a member of Walker Baptist Church.

Mr. Colquitt was a past master of Generous Warren Lodge 20 in Monroe, and a member of American Legion Post 64. He founded Colquitt Homebuilders in 1960 and built several hundred homes in Walton and surrounding counties.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 3 at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home, with the Rev. Russell Davis officiating. Interment was held in Hill Haven Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Tony Ferguson, David Ferguson, Toby Ferguson, Ronnie Colquitt, James Allen and Donald Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Blondean P. Colquitt of Monroe, sons, Steve Colquitt and Alan Colquitt, both of Monroe, daughter, Gail Burgess of Snellville, brother, Pierce Reese Colquitt Jr. of Snellville, sisters, Peggy Corry of Siloam and Elizabeth Summers of Shadydale, and six grandchildren.

Meadows Funeral Home Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.
