Mary M. Gelande, 76, died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at Illini Hospital, Silvis.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. Entombment is in St. Mary's Mausoleum. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, with a liturgy recited at 6:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Rev. John J. Dunne Memorial Endowment Fund at the church.
The former Mary Schmill was born May 4, 1921, in Luling, La., the daughter of Theodore and Melonie Bergeron Schmill. She married Maurice Glenade, Nov. 13, 1943, in Luling. He died June 22, 1993.
Mrs. Gelande and her sister-in-law were caterers for the John Deere UAW dinners for many years.
Mary was a member of St. Mary's Church and a 40-year member of the St. Rita's Circle.
She loved flowers, gardening and crocheting. She was well-known for her bread baking and cooking.
Survivors include daughters, Sharon Raven, Moline, and Roberta Vogler, East Moline; a son, Chuck Gelande, Moline; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; sisters, Ella Lierett, Frances Glass and Berthille Potter, all of Boutte, La., Molly Diffy, Luling, La., and Lucille Lane, Nacogdoches, Texas; and brothers, Edward Schmill and Percy Schmill, both of Boutte, La.
