Sibyl Choppin Mitchell

Sibyl Choppin Mitchell, 88, a native of Alexandria and a resident of Houma, died at 12:25 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2001.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at Chauvin Funeral Home. A prayer service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Louis Catholic Church,with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by one son, Erskin D.Mitchell Jr. of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Jennifer Mitchell Prejean and Carolyn Mitchell Rizzo, both of Houma; one sister, Blanche Compton of New Orleans; seven grandchildren, Paul Prejean, Kelly P. Boudreaux, Leah P. Bergeron, Ashley Prejean, Jeanne R. Chaisson, Kevin Rizzo and Yancey R. McWilliams; and eight great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Evan and Zachary
Prejean, Emily Boudreaux, Gregory and Gabriel Bergeron, Jacob Chaisson and Jonathan Rizzo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Erskin Dake Mitchell Sr.; her parents, Clifford and Lottie Walker Choppin Sr.; three brothers, Sam, Jack and Wilson Choppin; and one sister, Dorothy Rachal.

She was a retired school teacher for the Terrebonne Parish school board and was a member of the Terrebonne Parish Retired Teachers Association. She was a parishioner of St. Louis Catholic Church. Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
