Married Aletha on 19 February 1888 in Bell County Texas and had eight children, including: Leslie, Bertie A., John S., Valentine I., Lorin Lloyd, Russell P., Hulin P., and Buna.

Aletha was the daughter of Jasper Meriwether Jones and Margaret Robinson.

In 1900, the family was living in Township 4, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, where they were renting a farm. The household included: Richard, age 39; Aletha, age 31; Bertie A., age 9; Johnie S., age 7; Valentine I., age 5; Loyd L., age 2.

In 1910, the family was renting a farm in Lexington, Cleveland County, Oklahoma. In addition to Aletha and Richard, the household included John, Vallie, Lorin L., Russell P., Hulin P., and Buna.

In 1920, the family was still in Lexington, but had only the youngest two children in the household. In 1930, Richard and Aletha were still in Lexington and Richard was working as a house carpenter.
