Gilbert L. Clough was the oldest son of Elbridge Gerry Clough and Lydia P. (Brown) Clough. Gilbert was born Aug 26, 1839 in Lyme, New Hampshire. Gilbert married Caroline Ellen Kerr and had two daughters, Sarah Ellen known as Nelley b. 1.4.1870 died 1.24.1878; Mary Eve (known as Maime) b. 2.13.1872 died 1.19.1878 both girls died in a scarlet fever outbreak. Caroline and both girls are buried in clough cemetery Isanti, County, MN.
Gilbert then married Fanny Shearston and they had seven children
