Lydia B. "Birdie" Maier, 90, of Midland, passed away Tuesday morning, April 18, 2006, at the Brittany Manor Nursing Home in Midland, after a lengthy illness.
Lydia was born on March 21, 1916, in Olean, N.Y. to the late George and Lydia (Birr) Reich. She had resided in this area most of her life. Lydia was a member of the LaPorte United Methodist Church. She was involved in the church's Ladies Aid and sang in the church choir. Lydia also enjoyed playing the organ and singing. She married Merlin A. Maier on July 2, 1938; he predeceased her on Nov. 14, 1976.
Lydia is survived by her son, Randall (Lonalee) Maier of Midland; three grandchildren, Nikki and her husband, Jose', Stacey and her husband, Jeff and Ryan; and five great-grandchildren, Samantha, Jacob, Esperanza, Jacklyn and Elena. She was predeceased by her brother, George Reich; and her sister, Anna Soper.
Funeral and committal services will be held Friday, April 21, 2006, 11 a.m. at the LaPorte United Methodist Church. The Rev. Ellen Peckham will officiate, with burial in the LaPorte Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Cunningham/Taylor Funeral Home, 310 E. Washington, Freeland on Thursday from 1 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
