In 1835, they removed to Ohio, going on to Michigan in 1840, settling at Niles. Here he opened a meat market, working also at his trade as a carpenter. He was a large man, weighing 220 pounds. At the outbreak of the war he enlisted in the Eighth Michigan cavalry. Being disabled for service by sickness, he was honorably discharged; returned to his home in Michigan, but thinking his health would be better in a warmer climate, he started for Tennessee, took cold on the way and died at Nashville, Tenn.,1865. Elizabeth his wife made her home with her daughter, Sarah Kingsley, but while on a visit to her sister, Mrs. Wescott, at Northfield, Minn., she d. Aug. 19, 1874. --- Alonson Gray
