Joan went home to the Lord on July 11, 2010. Predeceased by her husband James David; parents Frances and Neil Houters; granddaughter, Megan; and great-grandson, Jeffery. Joan will be lovingly remembered by four children: Kathleen (James) Samuel, Eileen Hicks, James D. Barry II, and Frances Barry; 11 grandchildren: Michelle (Joe), Laura (Gilles), Nicole (Jeff), Adam (Jen), Mike (Shelly), Kellsie, Karllie, Breanna, Baileigh, Michaela, Jessica; 7 great-grandsons: Skyler, Trevor, Joshua, Mathieu, Christopher, Robert, and Alexandre. Also surviving are her brother Ed (Betty), sister-in-law Jeanne, cousins Bill (Jane) and Betty; many nieces, nephews and many friends who became part of her family.
It was Joan's wish that her body be donated to research.
Joan and her family are most grateful for the kindness and care she received from Dr. Qazi, Dr. Smith, Dr. Anderson, Dr. Schiff, Dr. Schwartz, the doctors and staff of Family Medicine, and the entire staff and volunteers at Highland Hospital.
