After an attack of the grip lasting only six days Charles B. Morhous, and old and respected citizen of the town of Moriah, died at his home at Port Henry, January 14. Mr. Morhous was born at Willsboro, July 18, 1815. He was the eldest of twelve children born to Andrew and Sarah Morhous, eight girls and four boys, six of whom, one brother and five sisters, are now living. He was married to Miss Mary Barton, October 7, 1840. They moved to Moriah in 1860, and bought a farm on which they lived until 14 years ago, when they moved to Port Henry, which has since been their home. They raised seven children. The eldest, Lyman, died in the army June 25, 1862, aged 20 years. The others are all living: Mrs. Arabella Joiner at Moriah: Miss Emma Morhaus at Port Henry: Irving Morhaus on the old homestead at Moriah: Mrs. Sarah Tillotson, and Charles A. Morhous at Ticonderoga: Mrs. Lizzie Crowningshield at Wadham's Mills. All attended the funeral, which was held at his late home January 16. Rev. J. Duffied officiated and preached from the following appropriate text: Prov. XVl. 31 "The hoary head is a crown of righteousness." They laid his body at rest in the cemetery on the Plains. His two sons and two sons-in-law were the bearers. In addition to relatives from out of town already mentioned who attended the funeral were his brother Horace Morhous and son Julius of Saranac, and his sister, Mrs. Martha Woodruff and son, Livingston, of Elizabethtown. His widow is now very sick of the grip.
