FORESTPORT - John M. Luczka Sr.. 75, who lived on Golf Brook Drive. Deer Springs Park. Town of Forestport, a former proprtetor of the Blue Baron Restaurant, died at his home on Saturday afternoon, June 6. 1992. Mr. Luczka was born in New York City on December 19. 1916, a son of Joseph and Anna Gudz Luczka. He spent his early childhood in New York City before moving to Yorkville. He graduated from a Utica area high school; and during World War II, served In the European Theatre while in the U.S Army. For 25 years, Mr. Luczka was employed in the Syracuse Office of the NYS Office of General Services as a supervisor of state building construction. He retired in 1980. For a short time in the early 1950's. Mr. Luczka lived in Otter Lake. He moved to the Forestport area in 1986 and was one of the early members of the Otter Lake Fire Department. He established the Blue Baron Restaurant on Route 12, in the Town of Remsen in 1978 and later sold the restaurant. Mr. Luczka married Ruth White of Rome NY. on July 12, 1981 at their home on Golf Brook Drive. He attended Forestport Presbyterian Church and was a member of Boonville Elks Lodge. He was also a member of Charles J. Love Post, American Legion of Boonville and Hartand J. Hennessey VFW Post of Boonville, a member of Bear Creek Lodge, Woodgate.
Mr. Luczka was a former member of the Otter Lake Fire Department, Yorkville Volunteer Fire Department and was an honorary member of Forestport Fire Fighters. For several years, he served as the Scout Master for Explorer Scouts In Yorkville. A member of Oneida County Sheriffs Department Kayuta Lake Boat Patrol, he was also a Civil Defense radio operator. Besides his wife Ruth, survivors include children of a former marriage, John M. Luczka Jr. and wife, Phyllis of Schuyler, NY: a daughter and son in law, Christine and John Huber; of Goshen, Indiana; grandchildren Evanne, Deanna. Jennifer and John M. Luczka III and Stacy, Dana and J. Scott Huber: three stepchildren, Mrs James (Barbara) Acchino, George P. Kiskiel Jr. and John H. Kiskiel and wife Victoria, all of Rome; and one brother, Walter Lucska. He was predeceased by a brother, Michael. John also leaves very special friends, his Skins Game golfing buddies.
