Enlisted in Co. C. 9th Arkansas Infantry, C.S.A. on July 25, 1861 at Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Wounded slightly at Corinth, Mississippi on October 3,1862. Captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 4,1863. He was declared exchanged in September, 1863. He was probably across the Mississippi River at that time visiting or recovering from illness and unable to return to his regiment as he took the oath of allegiance to the Federal Government at Pine Bluff, Arkansas on May 7, 1864. Served with his two brothers who both lost their lives in the war.
