James was the son of Joseph Hagan & Mary Anne King. He married Mary Tucker on 27 February 1797 & they had 10 children.

Per the Mount Hope Cemetery book that Bob Difani and Glenda Robinson made of the headstones in 1991, he is listed as Aquhia Hagan with a b: 10 Mar 1776 and d: 30 Aug 1851 with a raised tomb, being in Row 9 Stone 5. I located Joseph Difani in Row 9 Stone 2 and Elizabeth Layton in Row 9 Stone 7, by counting in both directions this makes this his tomb. There is another raised tomb next to his which belongs to Alfred Duffell. You can see that there are what used to be letters on the top of the tomb but it is not legible.
