John W. Ainslie 78, who for fifty years was identified with the business life of Roscoe, died at his home there on July 28 after a lingering illness. Burial was in the Roscoe Cemetery. He was born at Delhi, and when he came to Roscoe he located a sawmill on the Gulf road He invented the first machine to turn out bowling pins automatically and at one time was the second largest manufacturer of tenpins in the country. With Jeff Campbell he built the Bennett-Davis store in Roscoe, later selling his interest. He built the red mill where piano frames and other fine wood work were turned out. In 1921 he and his son, Walter, bought the Mary Reed property on Main Street and put up the large brick and tile building in which they established an auto sales agency. When his health began to fail, he opened a small gas station. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Maccabees. Surviving are his wife, the former Marietta Shafer of Delaware County, and the son, Walter, who is at Newport News, Va.
