Palma “Polly” A. Berry, age 98, of Tomah, Wisconsin, passed away July 30, 2017, at the Serenity House in Tomah. She was born September 19, 1918, to Peter and Anna (Lundvig) Gunderson in Boaz, Wisconsin. She graduated from Richland Center High School and went on to graduate from Palmer Handwriting Method School. Polly was united in marriage to James Selby Berry in Iowa in 1940.
During her youth, she was a member of the Boaz Community Band playing the guitar and was part of the Women’s Softball League. For many years she worked as a waitress at The Badger Café in Tomah. She spent a majority of her working years as a cook at the Tomah High School. Following her work as a cook, she worked as a receptionist and volunteered many hours at the Tomah Care Center and also babysat for various family friends. Polly’s family will remember her beautiful intricate cakes and her unforgettable cooking. She also enjoyed quilting, playing cards especially, Rummy, and was a self-taught organ player. She loved to Polka and listening to Polka Music. Her sassy sense of humor led many to believe she was a part of the Boaz Pole Dancers. In her spare time, she would often be found at garage sales or at auction shows looking for the best deals. Polly was a member of Five Points Lutheran Church in Blue River, WI and faithfully served at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Tomah where she was proud of her accomplishment of creating over 3,000 quilt tops. She admired the beauty of nature and others gardens as well as her own. Most of all, she was the biggest advocate and supporter for her family, no matter the circumstance or situation.
