She was born June 6, 1934, in Sperryville, Virginia, the daughter of the late Floyd Menefee and Josie Pullen. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Earl Menefee, Cleveland Menefee, and Richard Menefee.
Loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all, she had a wonderful caring compassionate heart.
Survivors include her husband, Udel Layton; a daughter, Dee Witry of Waynesboro; and a son, Robert Jenkins Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, of Charlottesville; three sisters, Oakey Lambert and her husband, Jack, of Charlottesville, Bertie Pullen of Flint Hill, and Margaret Fincham of Front Royal, Virginia; two brothers, James Menefee of Flint Hill and Roger Menefee of Little Washington; six grandchildren, Charles Grandstaff and his wife, Breanna, Jennifer Jenkins, Heather Saul and her husband, Stacy, Joshua Jenkins, Jacob Witry and Amber Witry; one great- grandchild, Hailey Anne Grandstaff; a son-in-law, Phil Witry; and step-grandson, Sidney Witry of Waynesboro.
Ann also leaves many friends at her Parkview residence, for whom she also considered family, as they were so dear to her heart.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff at the Hospice House of Charlottesville for their loving care and support during Ann's illness. They provided exceptional care and comfort not only to Ann, but the entire family. To Lori, Wendy, Susan, Amber and the entire staff, thank you and God bless you.
A very special thank you to Dr. Kristen Bell and her staff, for the exceptional care. Dr. Bell always went far beyond expectations to meet Ann's needs and provide support, not only as a doctor but as a friend.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 26, 2010, at Belmont Baptist Church with the Reverend Greg Anderson officiating.
Interment in Augusta Memorial Park in Fishersville, Virginia.
