Paul L. Steger, age 82, of Dickeyville, Wisconsin, died on Wednesday, October 27, 2004, at his home after an extended illness. He was born February 19, 1922, in Rickardsville, Iowa, the son of Michael and Mary (Duchr) Steger. One February 20, 1952, he married Velma M. Hynes. Together they owned and operated the Mound View Motel in Platteville for 15 years. Paul and Velma later operated the Chalet Motel in Marinette, Wisconsin, retiring in 1986 and moving to Dickeyville.

Paul was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Paul’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Velma Steger, Dickeyville; four children, Pauline (Darrell) Henry, Platteville; Wayne (Nancy) Steger, Indianapolis, Indiana; Donald (Patti) Steger, Abbotsford; and Steve (Debbie) Steger, Waukesha; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Agnes Hietzmann, Dyersville, Iowa; two brothers, Raymond (Beverly) Steger, Dubuque, Iowa; and Robert Steger, Waukesha; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, James, Donald, Herbert, Sylvester, and Francis Steger; and two sisters, Rosemary Baston and Margaret Finzel.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Platteville, with the Rev. Charles Schluter officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Martin Page Funeral Home, Platteville.

In lieu of plants and flowers, a Paul L. Steger Memorial Fund has been established.
