On October 11, 1927 he welcomed Charles Lindbergh to Atlanta. Chandler Field was purchased as a municipal airport, new viaducts were built, eleven new school buildings were built and 19 others enlarged during his term of office. At his first inaugural, he stated, 'it is good we do that we desire to live after us, and public service well performed is it's own eulogy.'."
