Robert J. Calhoun, age 81, of Elderton, PA, formerly of Indiana, died on August 3, 2009, at the Indiana Regional Medical Center.

He was born on November 8, 1927 in Indiana, Indiana Co. PA, to William R. and Nellie Mae (Wassam) Calhoun.

Mr. Calhoun honorably served his country during WWII and the Korean War from 1946 to 1951. A graduate of Indiana High school, Bob was a member of the Elderton Presbyterian Church, the V.F.W. of Indiana, the American Legion of Elderton, the Masonic Lodge #313 of Indiana and the Coudersport Consistory. He was a former 17 year member of the Indiana, PA Fire Association, most recently appointed as an honorary member.

Bob retired in 1985 after 30 years of service with McCreary Tire and Rubber of Indiana. After his retirement he worked part-time as a watchman for the R&P Coal Company's Florence mine. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his son, Robert P. Calhoun and his wife Karen of Forest, VA; a daughter, Betsy Schmotzer of Pleasant Hills, PA; two grandchildren, Derek Schmotzer and Amie Schmotzer; a great-granddaughter, Laci Schmotzer; and one brother, Richard Lee Calhoun and his wife Pat of Tonawanda, NY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Nita Jean (Bair) Calhoun whom he married September 20, 1950 and who died April 19, 2006; a grandson, Todd Schmotzer; three brothers, Murray W. Calhoun, Ruel Calhoun, and John C. Calhoun; and a sister, Helen Mae Elbel.

Friends will be received from 2-5 PM on Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at the Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home, Inc., 238 S. Main Street, Elderton, PA. Additional visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10AM until the time of funeral services at 11AM on Thursday, August 6, 2009 with the Rev. William Milligan officiating.

Interment will follow in the Elderton Cemetery, Armstrong Co. with full military honors accorded by the American Legion Honor Guard.
