*Tombstone error - should say L.J. Lovelady, not A.J. We are not sure how the error was made, but do know this is his headstone.

Lewis Jefferson "Jeff" Lovelady was born November 19, 1846 in Alabama, the son of Elijah and Nancy Lucas Lovelady. He lived with his parents in Shelby County, Alabama and in about 1865 (according to his pension records) he moved to Texas and married Martha K. "Mattie" McTyre in Daingerfield (Morris County) in 1870. They lived there the rest of their lives. Lewis Jefferson Lovelady died at his home in Daingerfield on November 11, 1921 as a result of paralysis.

Lewis and Mattie had the following known children:
*William Thomas m. Viola Mae Hagood
*Laura E. m. William Isaac McCaffity
*Floretta
*Lewis Jefferson m. Mary Elvira McCaffity
*John
*Mintie m. Fred Wooten m2. Rufus Gilmore
*Sarah m. Robert D. Hagood
*Lula May m. Ed Phillips
*Alvie Lovelady m. J.A. Phillips
*Ester B. Lovelady m. Roy/Ray Wilson

There may have been a daughter named Myrtie, but I have not found proof yet.

*Military-
Lewis fought in the Civil War for the Confederacy. He enlisted on July 15, 1863 and served in Company H, 24th Alabama Infantry. He surrendered and was paroled at Greensboro, NC in 1865.
