Robert Guthrie, 77, of Gatesville, passed away, Saturday, July 24, 2010. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, at Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Bogan officiating. Burial will follow at Post Oak Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Gatesville Funeral Home.

Bob was born in Oglesby, Texas, to the late John and Mattie Beatty Guthrie. He graduated from Oglesby High School in 1950. He worked for Southern Pacific Railroad from 1950 to 1952 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956. Bob worked for Southwestern Bell from 1956 to 1964. He then went to work at Ft. Hood, as a civil service employee, retiring in 1992. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Gatesville. He enjoyed traveling, wood working, being a ham radio operator, and serving on mission trips to Arizona. He also loved playing Santa Claus and dressing up as a clown for the children at church. Bob was a 50 year Mason and member of Gatesville Masonic Lodge #197 A.F. and A.M. He married Alice Witt on Feb. 14, 1976.

Bob was preceded in death by granddaughter, Laura Guthrie; great-granddaughter, Sammie Jo Weaver; brothers, Harold Guthrie, Carneal Guthrie, J.C. Guthrie; and sister, Dorothy Fay Guthrie Muegge.

Bob is survived by his wife, Alice Guthrie; daughter, Sandra Thompson, of Huntsville, Cindy Walts and husband, Gary, of Speegleville; sons, Kenneth Guthrie and wife, Ann, of Texarkana, Mike Witt and wife, Shirley, of Crawford, and Steve Witt, of Gatesville; grandchildren, Jeremy Thompson, Brandon Thompson, Alicia Guthrie, Kayla Guthrie, Michelle Davis, Melinda Weaver, Katrina Grieger, Corey Witt, Casey Witt, and Racheal Witt; and 12 great-grandchildren.
