Very Rev. Msgr. Anthony Adolph was born in Selbach in the Diocese of Cologne, Germany. He came to Buffalo in 1873 and was ordained later that year.

He was pastor of several parishes in the diocese, before being made pastor of Saints Peter & Paul in Williamsville. He served that parish as pastor for 25 years, but in his last years he was very ill and an administrator was appointed to take care of the parish.

During his years, he made several trips to Rome to visit the pope and, since he was acquainted with President Grover Cleveland, he once carried a letter from the president to Pope Leo XIII.
