Rev. John N. Arent was ordained in Germany on August 20, 1831 and ministered in that country until 1847, when he decided to move to the United States and settled in the Diocese of Buffalo. He served in several parishes in the area and was noted as a gifted orator. One parish anniversary book indicated that he was a priest who could practice Medicine.
Father Arent died while serving at St. Louis Church in Buffalo, the oldest priest in the diocese at the time. The funeral was very well attended.
