Rev. Edward J. Ayers was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Buffalo on December 19, 1931. He served as assistant pastor in several parishes until he was appointed founding pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niagara Falls in 1949. While pastor, he built the church building.

He was stricken with a heart attack while in Dillon, South Carolina while on his way to Florida and died several months later in Buffalo at the age of 49.

Survived by brother John, and sisters Margaret Ryan, Mary Cosgrove, and Catherine Eckert.
