Gilbert L. Ochs, 78, Newton, died at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, 1987, at Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary's of Assumption Church in Ste. Marie, with burial in St. Valentine's Cemetery, Ste. Marie. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, with a wake service at 7 p.m.

Mr. Ochs was born on April 30, 1909, in Jasper County to Peter and Ida (Zuber) Ochs. He married Emma Geiger on Sept. 10, 1940, in Ste. Marie. She survives.

He was a farmer and a member of St. Mary's of Assumption Church.

Survivors include his wife; two stepdaughters, Marrille Smith of Thomasboro and Joyce Baker of Tuscola; two brothers, Herman of Newton and Lorraine of West Liberty; four sisters, Rose Rubsam of Newton, Henrietta Deimel of Ingraham, Bernadine Kuenstler of Noble and Eunice Schackman of Newton; three step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
