Maria Anna Brown Jenkins Ridley was the daughter of John and Maria Grant Brown. The family came from England to Kenosha, WI in 1852 and to Poweshiek County, Iowa in 1854.
Maria married first James S Jenkins in 1862 and he died of consumption 18 Sept 1863. She is listed in his probate papers of 16 September 1864 in Poweshiek County, IA as the administratix Maria A Jenkins and in the final papers 0f 5 November 1866 as Maria A Ridley formerly Maria A Jenkins. She had married 2nd Charles Ridley 16 Feb 1866 at Poweshiek County, IA (marriage record book B pg 10-11). The Ridleys had 3 daughters and 2 sons: Emma, Julia, Charles and Ralph and a daughter who died in infancy.
Maria died from a stroke at 1079 N Marengo Ave, Pasadena, CA where she and Charles had lived since 1906. Funeral services were held from that home and her body was cremated and the ashes later brought to Westfield Cemetery in Grinnell, IA to lay beside her husband.
