Richard Mount Cox was the son of William and Margaret (Mount) Cox, and he came to Warren County, Ohio, with his mother in 1810. He was married twice. His first marriage was to Nancy Irwin in 1817. She was the daughter of James and Agnes Irwin, who lived in Butler County, Ohio. Richard and Nancy had two children before Nancy's death in 1821. Their daughter, Nancy Margaret Cox, married Daniel Schenck, and their son, William Cox, Jr., married Susanna Eddy. Richard's second marriage was to Mary A. Huston, who bore him six children. Martha married Eli Bowyer and Lydia married Richard Cunningham. Their son, James, died at age 22, and three others died very young. Richard was a soldier in the war of 1812, serving for several months, and was with the army in a campaign through Canada. He was also one of the Trustees in his township for many years.
