Obituary - Roanoke World-News, Monday, Oct. 19, 1953: Asa O. Barker, 78, 3115 Courtland Ave., N. W., died yesterday in Lewis-Gale Hospital. He is survived by two sons, Rorer J. Barker of Axton and Theodore R. Barker of Hot Springs; five daughters, Mrs. D. J. Barker, Mrs. A. B. Carson, Mrs. Edward E. Kane, Mrs. Clarence Wells, and Mrs. J. F. Wright, all of Roanoke; a brother, Ira Barker of Axton; and two sisters, Mrs. Dora Barker of Axton and Mrs. Pearl Barker of Portsmouth. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive. The funeral will be conducted tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. in Oakey's Chapel by Elder B. V. Helms and Elder J. P. Helms. Pallbearers will be E. C. Baldwin, E. E. Waldron, T. M. Wright, Bill W. Sink, C. C. Kane and E. P. Riley, Jr. Burial will be in Sherwood.
