Elizabeth M. “Betty” Karstaedt, age 82, died peacefully on Monday, November 15, 2004, at the Plymouth Care Center (formally Valley Manor Nursing Home), where she had been a resident for the past ten years.

Betty was born on June 26, 1922, in the Town of Sheboygan Falls, a daughter of the late Walter and Minnie (Noldmann) Mahler.

On June 12, 1943, she married Valentine “Hanna” Karstaedt at Bethlehem U.C.C. in the Town of Schleswig. After marriage, the couple lived, farmed and raised five children on the Mahler homestead. Valentine preceded her in death on December 5, 1988.

She enjoyed farming, cooking, baking and gardening. Along with her hobbies, for three decades, Elizabeth enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up around her on the farm.

Betty was a member of Saron U.C.C. in the Town of Sheboygan Falls.

Surviving Betty are two sons, James (Virginia) Karstaedt of Sheboygan Falls and Gerald (Sally) Karstaedt of School Hill; two daughters, Lois (Craig) Schlichting of Sheboygan and Gerilyn (Daniel) Hiebing of Sheboygan; and 12 grandchildren, Kevin (Ann) Karstaedt, David (Carrie) Karstaedt, Corey Karstaedt, Lisa (Brian) Schneider, Brenda (Joel) Prange, Yvonne (Mark) Diener, Brian (Susan) Karstaedt, Nancy (Randy) Bergemann, Aaron Freitag, Lynn (Justin) Pitz, Nicole Hiebing and Tawny Hiebing. Betty is further survived by 13 great-grandchildren and her twin sister, Isabell Klokow of Howards Grove.

Betty was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathaleen and granddaughter, Kristine Karstaedt.

A funeral service will be held for Betty on Friday, November 19, 2004 at Saron United Church of Christ in the Town of Sheboygan Falls. The Rev. Jennifer Dawson will officiate. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Louis Corners.


But when tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand, that an angel came and called my name and took me by the hand, and said my place was ready in heaven far above, and that I’d have to leave behind all those I dearly loved.
So when tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart, for every time you think of me, I’m right here in your heart.
