Rex Alonzo Peel was born and raised in Florida and later Chicago, Illinois. He married Virginia Dahlstrom Peel and had three children: Christian (1946-1946), Reddick Ansen (born 1947), and Pauline Ann (born 1956). He worked for many years for the advertising firm J. Walter Thompson in Chicago as art director. After retiring, he and Virginia relocated from Geneva, Illinois, where they lived for many years, to California in the 1970s where Virginia passed away in 1977. Rex married Raylene Hooten Peel in 1983.
Rex served in the US Army in New Guinea throughout WWII. He attended DePauw University in Chicago and the Chicago Art Institute. During his retirement he continued to paint and enjoyed golf. After Raylene passed away, Rex relocated to Indiana to be near his daughter Polly's family.
