Melita, or "Lita" as she was known to family and close friends, lived for the joy of seeing her children and grandchildren grow up. She was a most caring and kind-hearted woman and never had a harsh word for anyone. She was blessed with a physical beauty that could not compare with her inner beauty. She lived her life as a testament to God and held on to Him as her battle with RA drew to an end.
Melita spent most of her life being a wife and mother to four daughters. She was also blessed with seven grandchildren. Throughout the years, Melita always had a dream of owning her own business. That dream eventually blossomed and began as a coffee shop, known as Common Grounds Coffee Bar and Tea Shoppe. Her sister, Iris Gearhart, was her partner throughout and supported Melita in reaching her dream.
Melita was born March 28, 1951, in Columbus, Indiana. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1969 and went on to earn an Associate of Art Degree from Ivy Tech. During her high school years, she was chosen by her peers as Prom Queen and also Homecoming Queen. She was also chosen to represent the city of Columbus as "Miss Columbus." She worked at Jefferson National as a Graphic Designer for a short time and then went on to be a devoted wife and mother.
