BLANCHER Alton Raymond Blancher, Sr. passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2010, at the age of 81 of natural causes. He was the beloved husband of the late Allene Rouselle Blancher. Father of Alton Blancher, Jr. and David Blancher. Grandfather of Alyssa B. Gaudet, Jessica B. Zelayandia, Adam Blancher, Cassidy Blancher and Madision Blancher. Great-grandfather to Megan Blancher, Jenna Gaudet and Olivia Gaudet. Son of the late Oscar and Edith Blancher. Brother to Edmond Blancher and the late Oscar Blancher, Robert Blancher and Verlyn Barbier. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends. Mrs. Blancher was a lifelong resident of New Orleans and a parishioner of St. Nicholas Church of Myra. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was a World War II era veteran. He retired from the New Orleans Convention Center, but continued to meet his former co-workers every Friday at the "Corporation". He actively served the community as Volunteer Firefighter for Fort Pike. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, (in Metairie Cemetery). Interment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations to the American Cancer Society at 2605 River Road, New Orleans, LA 70121.
